Hi, I’m Mike GlozierOver the last 15 years of teaching, I've had the pleasure of helping drummers of all kinds, from first-time players to seasoned pros.
Whatever your level, my goal is the same: to make things simple and straightforward. I believe that learning is about making things easier to understand - not more confusing. But of course, it’s not just how we learn - it’s what we learn, too. Where many teachers focus on paperwork, I focus on playing. After all - when was the last time you saw your favourite bands following sheet music? |
What We’ll Work OnOver the last 5,000+ lessons, I’ve developed and refined my own fast track syllabus to help players of all levels make massive progress - beginning with solid foundations, and opening up to your choices and requests as we advance.
Stage 1 - Master The Basics
Beats and fills form the core of playing drums. While the possibilities are infinite, certain patterns are used more than others. We'll focus on the 10 most popular beats and 5 fills that allow you to play along with most any song and show off around kit. Stage 2 - Learn Your Favourite Songs
With the foundations set, it’s time to start focusing on the music you like. I’ll ask you to make a playlist of your favourite songs, and we’ll work through them, progressively exploring deeper levels of detail as you advance. Stage 3 - Film Videos (or Take Grades)
Filming videos is a great way to track your progress - it’s cool to have something to look back on too. We’ll film your favourite playing, and upload it to a private link for you to watch, keep and show your friends. If you like, we can also take grades at this stage (100% pass rate). Grades can now be filmed during a lesson, and submitted digitally for assessment - without the need to visit and exam centre. Stage 4 - Master Technical Skills
Time to get into the technical stuff. From building to smooth, effortless technique to learning how to flow around the kit - we’ll focus on the many hidden skills that make the best players stand out from the rest. Stage 5 - Get Advice & Guidance
The more advanced you become, the more aware you become of the small details of your own playing - and of everyone else’s. Use me to get any advice or answers you need to get to the next stages of your playing. |

Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat ages do you teach?
I primarily focus on teaching adults and older teenagers, but I welcome students of all levels from ages 13 and up. I also offer specialised Core lessons for students aged 9-12 who want to get started sooner. What if I’ve taken lessons elsewhere?
Worry not - many people come to me after getting bored with the slow pace of lessons elsewhere. We’ll get you back on track, playing the stuff you want to play, and making noticeable progress. Do I need to commit to a weekly slot?
Not at all - my lessons can be booked online as often as you like. However, demand is high, so if you plan on taking regular lessons I recommend reserving a regular slot to guarantee availability. Can you help with pieces for music GCSE/College/University?
Absolutely: • GCSE I teach a pair of pieces that fulfill AQA/Pearson GCSE performance requirements, and score consistently highly. • College/University I’m happy to help students learn, prepare and film pieces for auditions, and master the traditional notational/rudimental skills that are common on formal music education courses. |
